The University of Kentucky, in cooperation with Eastern Kentucky, Murray State University, and Western Kentucky University, offer a collaborative and interdisciplinary Rehabilitation Sciences Doctoral Program.

Mission:

To fulfill a leadership role in addressing the rehabiliation needs of individuals in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond through research, education, and service.

The Rehabilitation Sciences Doctoral Program is designed to produce academic leaders in rehabilitation sciences for the professions of occupational therapy, communication disorders, physical therapy, and athletic training. Graduates of the program will be prepared to conduct rehabilitation related research, teach in higher education, direct discipline-specific educational programs, work in the rehabilitation services field, and collaborate with other professions on various issues related to rehabilitation.

Educational format:

The Kentucky distance learning network is utilized when possible and appropriate for courses, meetings, advising, and instruction. Not all courses are offered online.

Curriculum:

Students are required to complete a concentrated interdisciplinary program and may select an area of specialization. The curriculum is composed of:

  • A required core in rehabilitation theory and practice
  • Research methodology related to rehabilitation
  • Advanced areas of specialization consistent with student's discipline and    clinical expertise
  • Research apprenticeship
  • Teaching apprenticeship
  • Dissertation

Admissions:

Occupational therapists applying for admission must have a master's degree, be initially certified by NBCOT, and be eligible for licensure in occupational therapy.

Applicants must apply to both the University of Kentucky Graduate School and the Rehabilitation Sciences Doctoral Program

Application deadlines for admission to the program are as follows:

  • For Fall Semester: admission June 1st
  • For Spring Semester: admission October 1st
  • For Summer: admission March 1st
